I was back from Figueres and it was time to look for Picasso and Miro in Barcelona, to chase the landmarks of the city which were the legacy of these two great artists. Besides strolling around the Gothic Quarter Barcelona where I found the renowned cafe.

Picasso Museum Barcelona

I already knew that the Picasso Museum Barcelona was on Montcada Street in the Gothic Quarter and prepared myself for long lines. (If only I could calculate how many hours I spent in Barcelona waiting to see all the landmarks…) Still, this popular quarter is so vibrant that you can just look around or read a guidebook as I did.

Picasso and Miro in Barcelona

Picasso Museum Barcelona

Picasso’s artwork was originally hosted by the Museum of Modern Arts, but since there were so many paintings and drawings, there was a need to open another exhibition area. Should I mention that the building of the museum itself has a certain historical value?

Miro in Barcelona

One other artist left his mark in this Catalan city. Whenever I glance at a poster I bought at the Miro’s museum, the first thing that pops up to my mind is Barcelona. Fundacio Joan Miro is worth a visit. It is located on Montjuic Hill (and be prepared to queue up and wait to go in). If you are planning on strolling around this famous hill, don’t miss this museum.

It is somewhat exhausting to do it all in one day, but it’s well worth it… Even if your legs hurt in the evening, and you are not sure how you will ever get to the hotel… (I will tell you about it later in the series!)

MIRO IN BARCELONA: La dona i l’ocell

Anyway, some of Miro’s most beautiful pieces can be seen here, at the Joan Miro Foundation. But Miro is hard to miss when in Barcelona. Pay attention at the airport, there is his famous mural in one of the passages. Also, one of his most peculiar works is in the Placa del Escorxador, a monolith called La dona i l’ocell (Lady and Bird). There is also the floor mosaic in the Pla de la Boqueria in La Rambla Street, so watch your step there.

When I talked about my Picasso and Miro in Barcelona adventure, it was funny to tell a story about stepping over Miro. Even though I wouldn’t normally, honestly!
